This brochure, created by the Office for Human Research Protections (OHRP), is intended for
people who are considering joining a research study. It provides points for individuals to consider
and questions for individuals to ask before consenting to participate in a research study.
This is a resource provided by Children’s Hospital Boston to assist parents in deciding whether or
not to allow their child to participate in medical research. It describes medical research in
layman’s terms and answers frequently asked questions. There is a video component to this
website as well as a mechanism that helps you to easily create your own list of questions to ask a
research team.
Created by the Department of Veteran’s Affairs, this brochure explains research, the benefits of a
research study, ‘informed consent’, and provides questions for individuals to ask before
consenting to participate in a research study.
